Mentoring Our Youth

Crown Academy’s youth mentoring program is an educational initiative that provides low-income youth with the skills, confidence, and knowledge to succeed designed to address the achievement gap for low-income students in STEAM fields, which has been identified as a critical issue facing communities in North Omaha.

Financial literacy focuses on concepts needed to manage money and build wealth, depending on an individual’s situation. It may mean learning how to create and manage a household budget, learning how to invest money for retirement, or participating in one-on-one coaching and counseling. The overall strategy is to increase economic security for participants.

Crown Academy’s youth mentoring program is an educational initiative that provides BIPOC youth with the skills, confidence, and knowledge to succeed.

  • Half of middle school students reported “picking the right career for me” as a source of stress;
  • 41% percent of teens reported “thinking about the future and what I will need to do to reach my future goals” as a source of stress.

Why Career Exploration in Middle School Matters

  • 87% percent of middle school students are interested in ways to match their specific skills and interests with potential careers; and
  • 85% percent are interested in ways to learn the education and experience requirements needed for the careers they are interested in.

Omaha Skills Connections approach to achieving a brighter future for residents of North Omaha will be accomplished through these Pillars of Community Impact:

1. To eliminate barriers for participants by providing career readiness opportunities.

2. To support a disciplined, dynamic, dedicated, and well-trained team of workforce professionals.

3. To create a network of collaborations between public, private, and non-profit organizations working directly with stakeholders to help close today’s skills gap for minorities in trades.

4. To provide participants access to experienced mentors and engaging, project-based learning opportunities.

Our mission is to eliminate barriers to economic well-being for marginalized populations through career readiness, financial literacy, and mentoring. 

 Our vision is a community in which individuals and families have equitable access to economic stability to mitigate the effects of historical poverty in the area and the right connections to foster long-term stability for all.
